Blue Mountain Bioblitz

Despite the threat of showers, we had a record turn-out for our latest biodiversity survey at the Blue Mountain park on Saturday 15th June. We found 27 species of birds, 24 species of plants, 8 species of butterflies and moths, 6 species of bees, and two species of damselflies. We also found a number of other insects and have a few still to identify. One of the most pleasing things was the number of bees, including honey bees, that we found across the site.

Some lovely photographs from the day have been put on Facebook in the Binfield Environment Group.

We know that there is a lot more to be found around the Blue Mountain park. We have developed and tested a simple set of surveys based on a 1-mile circuit of the cut paths within the park. We have designed these so that anyone, with a suitable identification guide, can do them. If you are interested in doing a one-off, or regular, survey then please contact me. Our current surveys are: birds; plants; bees; butterflies; dragonflies and damselflies; and other insects.
