This is Bumble, the Binfield Environment Group entry to this year's Scarecrow Trail. Bumble is taking a well-earned break at Crema after helping us plant pollinator-friendly things around the parish.
Here are some of Bumble's bees.
Binfield Environment Group have planted the diamond bed, opposite the library, with an array of herb plants. The different varieties have flowers that are attractive to bees and other pollinators. The bed is underplanted with crocus bulbs which will flower in the spring to provide an early source of nectar. We have also planted bulbs and plug plants on the roundabout by the library.
Bumble and BEG are doing our bit to help Binfield’s pollinators. You can help too. Here are some of the things that you can do in your own garden to help bees:
Fill gardens with nectar and pollen rich flowers - Look out for RHS Plants for Pollinators. Plant different varieties so that there are flowers throughout the year.
Allow lawn ‘weeds’ to flower by cutting less often
Provide water for pollinators
Avoid using pesticides wherever possible and never spray open flowers
Provide nest sites for wild bees
