In addition to running work parties and delivering walks and talks, Binfield Environment Group surveys seven green-spaces in the parish of Binfield. The surveys are done using a methodology that means that we can tell how things change from year to year, but don’t record everything that turns up.

Here is some of our data on birds and butterflies from 2025:
Piglittle Meadows is the most biodiverse area that we survey
Woodpigeons, robins and blue tits are recorded on almost all of our surveys
Rare firecrests are probably breeding in one of Binfield’s green-spaces
Dartford warbler and kingfisher were recorded once each
Large white and gatekeeper butterflies were recorded at most of our sites
Clouded yellow and painted lady butterflies were recorded once each

There is more information on each of the green-spaces and what we found in 2025 here - https://binfieldeg.wixsite.com/binfieldeg/general-8.
Although we are seeing fluctuations in the numbers of some species the main overall trend that we are seeing after seven years of surveying is that we are getting better ay identifying things. However, we have gathered useful information that has been shared with the managers of all of these sites to benefit nature and people.
